Today’s quiet time with God was extra special because it was my first morning of the year with a CHristmas mug! 🙂 While I love Thanksgiving and the whole month of reflecting on what God has so richly blessed us with, even in our weakness and for some poverty, I LOVE the Christmas season! The sights, the smells, the joy and the anticipation! The anticipation of the advent season, waiting for the Christ child to be born! And I love to sip my coffee from my favorite Christmas mugs. Actually, my FAVORITE Christmas mug that I had had for 20 years broke last year, and I was a spoiled little brat and kind of protested all of the other Christmas mugs for the rest of the season, I was so excited to pull any Christmas mug out of the cabinet this morning 🙂 I am hoping to try to find a new favorite though 🙂
Ok, enough about silly mugs….onto God’s word! Today’s reflection was so cool to me, because I love that there is scripture that backs up what I do 🙂 I wish it were scripture that I have memorized instead of song lyrics (and I oftentimes forget those or get them all mixed up), but if you are ever around me in person for any length of time you will quickly find out that I am a hummer. And when no one else is around a singer…..I almost always have a song on my lips (or in the case of humming, behind my lips) 🙂 Most of the time they are praise and worship songs, but sometimes it might be a tune from a commercial or a tv show theme song, or just a chord progression that my son has been practicing on one of his guitars 🙂
God tells us in the Psalms that this is a good thing….
Psalm 92:1-5 It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, to proclaim your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night, to the music of the ten-stringed lyre and the melody of the harp. For you make me glad by your deeds, O Lord; I sing for joy at the works of your hands. How great are your works, O Lord, how profound your thoughts!
Do you find yourself singing, humming or whistling in response to the joy of the Lord in your heart?
