A moment in God’s Word today….8/21/12

This morning God reminded me of how GOOD and faithful He is in my life through this scripture!

2 Tim 1:13-14 (ESV)  Follow the pattern of the sound words that you have heard from me, in the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.  By the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, guard the good deposit entrusted to you.

There have been a few times in my life as a Christian that I have sat under teaching that was what I believe to be was less than sound.  Not heresy, just not what I believe the Bible to say and mean.   I don’t want to go into any detail on that, but just point back to Paul’s letter to Timothy.  I (we….our entire family) followed the sound words and teaching that we had heard from God’s Word in the past and were able to discern that what we were hearing at that time did not completely line up with what He teaches in His Word.   The Holy Spirit did guard that in us, that God had built up in us.

When I have people ask me if something is right or true, I always try to turn it back to God’s Word and remind them to seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance in discerning the matter.

I love Paul’s letters of admonishment and encouragement to Timothy!  So many of the struggles and stumbles that we, as followers of Christ, deal with today….2000 years after these scriptures were written….are addressed in these passages.   There is so much richness here.  Some of the biggest struggles in my walk, when I’ve gone to scripture to find encouragement and instruction, I have found it right here in the two letters that Paul wrote to his brother Timothy.    No wonder much of both of these books are sprinkled throughout the Awana curriculum from Cubbies-Journey (preschool-high school).
