May 1, 2011

Yesterday is a day for the history books, well, at least the US History books.  On September 11, 2001, almost 10 years ago, Osama Bin Laden and the Al Queda Network (a terrorist organization) attacked the US and the world in a manner that will be remembered for generations, and possibly for all time.   Within a few weeks, President George W. Bush declared a war against terrorism and sent troops to Afghanistan and Iraq to take down the enemies of our country.  The US Military and it’s allies were successful in defeating the Taliban and in capturing and killing some of the key players in the 9/11 attacks but Osama Bin Laden continued to remain in hiding.   He continued to orchestrate attacks (many that were stopped before they happen) against the world, but he avoided capture.   Until yesterday.  Yesterday, May 1, 2011 (which also happened to be the 66th anniversary of the demise of another infamous terrorist, Adolf Hitler)  the US Military launched a strike in Pakistan that killed Osama Bin Laden.   Within moments of the breaking news (around 7:30 pm pacific time) Facebook and Twitter were exploding with the news.  Some were cheering Bin Laden’s death and the US Military, others were just giving the information, and the others were attacking their Christian brothers and sisters.

Last night I was sad that this battle was going on between Christians through social media…..I couldn’t believe that both sides (the side that was cheering that justice had been served, and the side that was saying that no one deserves to die without God’s love, etc) were attacking one another with Scripture (single verses, many of which were being taken out of their context).  Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Satan won!  He pitted brother against brother and sister against sister, and it worked!   There was a battle that left brothers and sisters in Christ bruised and bloodied last night and this morning and Satan won!     He put a judgemental spirit into our minds that caused some to judge others for their responses to this news.    In all honesty, I don’t know how I feel about this….yes, I am relieved that Osama Bin Laden can no longer attack innocent people.  Yes, I do believe that we are one step closer to taking down the Al Queda network of terrorists.  I also am intelligent enough to know that this isn’t the end of terrorism…..until Jesus comes back to rule and reign  terrorism WON”T end, because Satan is still the prince of this world.  What I do believe is that God is in control, and that He knew the days of Osama Bin Laden, and that Osama Bin Laden had hardened his heart so hard against God that he was an enemy of God.    God allowed that group of Navy Seals to find, and kill Osama Bin Laden…..that is what I know.

My prayer is that my brothers and sisters in Christ will stop fighting about this and being judgemental towards one another and towards others about their response to this news.   Yes, there were people cheering, that was their emotional response…..everyone’s emotional responses are different.  Doesn’t make them right or wrong (unless it’s hurting someone) they are just different.   Today, let’s focus on May 2, 2011, and what God is going to do through us today to make a positive impact on this world that we live in!

You hit the nail on the head!

Thank you Mari! I just share my heart, and had overnight to think about it and some time in the Word this morning studying David to help me get my thoughts together 🙂

And please know that your son, and so many others are in my prayers!
