Babies and showers….

Well, I have mentioned a couple of times in the past couple of weeks that we are having a baby shower for the new High School Pastor and his wife. A friend of mine and I are helping the high school girls plan it. Just thought I’d share some details, as well as a recipe…..

The food:

chinese chicken salad with homemade dressing (recipe follows)

rolls

butter

fresh fruit

cake

lemonade and water

The tables…..

white linen tablecloths

pink flowers

balloons (just one bouquet)

pink and cream napkins for lunch

some Peter Cottontail type napkins for cake

The agenda:

1:00 guests and guest of honor arrive

1:10 welcome and introductions

1:15 eat lunch

games

gifts

cake

3:00 ???? ending time (not really sure on the end time, it will really depend on how many guests come and how many gifts there are)

I’ve been trying different chinese chicken salad dressings today (homemade) and got the idea from a friend from church on the ingredients, and I added a couple of things and came up with the incremements based on a recipe from Recipezaar.com

3 tablespoons toasted sesame seeds

2 teaspooons dry mustard

2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce

3 tablespoons agave syrup (for the actual shower I’m using 1/4 cup brown sugar)

1 cup organic brown rice vinegar

3 tablespoons organic toasted sesame oil

1/2 cup organic grapeseed oil

The salad will have:

romaine lettuce

red leaf lettuce

shredded green cabbage

shredded red cabbage

shredded carrots

sugar snap peas

toasted almond slices

green onions

chicken (since I’m cooking for so many, I’m going to roast whole chickens for this salad, I will season them with garlic, salt, pepper and five spice powder and let the seasoning “marinate” them overnight tonight before roasting them tomorrow)

crispy noodles

The plan for the food is to have everything pre-cut/shredded and in individual bags and then mix everything together at the church just before serving.

Just in case we don’t need all of the food that is made, we won’t add the almonds, crispy noodles, or dressing until just before we serve. The rest of the salad will last for several days for leftovers as long as those things aren’t added.
