Remember my new venture?

I posted a few days ago about a new  venture that I was starting……it is actually two-fold. One part of it is that I am making lunches for a couple of (which turned into 3 the day before I started, and I think is turning into 5 next week) ladies at D’s work. They want “mommas”, so I am now affectionately called “Momma S…..” by the ladies in the curriculum center of the school district that D works for. So today, instead of packing 1 lunch, I packed 4. And from what D reported last week, next week I may be packing 6 🙂 Will DEFINITELY need to get things staged the night before 🙂 This is a pretty general representation of what D’s lunches look like on a daily basis. A sandwich (I like to mix that up a bit as far as breads and fillings), fruit, veggies, dip for veggies (most days :)), something sweet or salty, and about one day a week something special (like the pudding cup, or yogurt, or something of that sort)…his lunch also includes a soda. Their’s does not. Here’s a photo of today’s lunches….

My other new venture is selling my breads and baked goods. That is going pretty well, and I am getting new customers which is great!

This past week I baked multi-grain seeded bread, bran muffins, and chocolate chip cookies (r baked those with me), as well as the pitas you see above in the lunch.

Those look wonderful! I bet they were thrilled to get them. And what great boxes those are you have to pack lunches in…..are those easy to find?

  2. Elizabeth says:

Wow Lori. You may be the next bag lady like Paula deen. LOL That is how she got her start. Sounds like you had a busy baking day yesterday.

Gail, the boxes come from Target. They are 3.99 and we love them! I’ve been using them for about 6 months now, and they are great! SOOOO handy for lunch.

Elizabeth, I never knew that about Paula Deen, but how fun! Yes, I did have a busy baking day this week, and this next week’s proves to be busier….and that is great! I’m having a blast doing it, and it is also fun bringing in a little extra money. And last week I even got a tip with the lunch money 🙂

Hey Lori, What are you charging per lunch?

  5. lori says:

    Hi Karen,

I am charging $5 per lunch, and using reusable containers. If I were to use disposable stuff, I’d have to charge more.

  6. Karen says:

Wow that’s great Lori! So do you have to shop more to keep the food stocked? And in the end, how much do you think you are profitting on the lunches.

  7. lori says:

Karen, I’m still only shopping once a week, and just buy what I need on Saturdays. I am only doing the lunches one day a week. Depending on the lunch, my profit will be anywhere from 2-3 per lunch.

  8. Karen says:

Okay. I thought you were doing these lunches everyday. I hope all is well with you. Please email me soon.

Target! I should look for those next time I go but not sure if hubby will want lunches packed for him this summer or not……great idea and they look great too!
I did just buy some whole wheat pita bread yesterday though so will have to try that out.

I clicked on the picture to enlarge. Your sink and countertop both look like the new ones hubby just installed for me. Funny 🙂

Lori… that is awesome! I’m so excited for your ventures!

I’m selling bread and muffins to a guy that works with Jeff… his family loves them. What are you charging for a loaf of bread? I’m charging $4. To me that seems high, but the bread is chock full of 14 different grains and they are all at least double the price of wheat. I calculated my cost and doubled it. What do you think?

The muffins… I hate admit the price… they are $7 per dozen. I worked out my cost and doubled it. The guy buys them without quibbling. Does that sound like highway robbery to you? 🙂

Anyway, since you’re so experienced in this issue, I wonder what you think of my prices?

How much do you charge for your pitas and/or rolls and/or cookies?

    Love, Wardeh

Wardeh, I’m emailing you privately with my prices.
